Our Curriculum
Being a pure Montessori school, we adopt and adhere closely to the five Montessori focus areas.
Practical Life
This includes many of the tasks that children see as part of their everyday life. Children develop independence as they learn how to take care of themselves and the environment, while also refining muscular co-ordination, fine motor skills and adopting appropriate social etiquette. Additionally, these activities lay the foundation for all future learning, for it is through completing each task that the child begins to develop essential powers of concentration.
Sensorial
Children will refine their senses and enable them to absorb more detailed and accurate information from the environment. The Sensorial materials will isolate and teach one concept of skill at a time and are designed to bring these abstractions into a clear and concrete form. Children will learn to create mental classifications and thus organize information taken in through the senses.
Language
Activities are introduced which aid in the development of linguistics and literacy. Our bilingual environment grooms children to express themselves articulately and confidently in English and Mandarin. Many opportunities are offered for children to express their thoughts through creative writing and children are encouraged to develop a love for reading.
Mathematics
The Montessori Mathematics apparatus provide hands-on learning experiences that make abstract concepts clear and concrete. By working with these fascinating tools, children can literally see each mathematical process unfold before their eyes. The goal is to provide a concrete representation of an abstract idea in order to help develop a clear mental image of the mathematical concepts. In this way, a solid foundation is laid and supports the child’s further work with mathematics in primary school.
Culture
This area encompasses art, music, science and geography, all of which is carefully integrated into the total learning experience. Our classroom responds to the child’s natural curiosity with plants, animals and the physical environment. Our activities help children to learn about the people and cultures of other countries, connecting them to the larger global community in which they live.
